WELCOME to our monthly collection. This space is our online equivalent of a commonplace book. Here is where we offer links and ideas for you to explore, and things we might want to revisit or remember. Brew yourself a cup of tea and savor a quiet moment while you read. Be inspired to live with equal parts industry and creativity.

Check out Abby’s Quiet Books. Each one is unique; this picture is an example of what your quiet book could look like. The lunch bags she makes are on sale right now until the 30th. I like them because they are machine washable and when not in use they store in a small space. We have three lunch bags and all our water bottles in an 8 inch drawer. I’ve been reading Upstairs at the White House by J. B. West and this little incident was so delightful. This is what I do when I want to make the guest room nice for company — just like Mrs. Truman did at the White House.

And the Truman’s were ready to host Prince Phillip and Princess Elizabeth!
Mid-summer a pair of swallows built a nest in the eaves of our house. It is right out the window nearest my desk. For weeks the flitting and flying activity has been intense, all their children must have survived to adulthood and stayed on living with the parents. And now as I write this there is no sign of all those swallows. They were here yesterday. I guess I have no more excuse to be distracted during my writing.
Swallows flit like bats
Fanning out from the house eaves;
invitation to dream.
New Word: scintilla: n. /sin ’tilə/ a tiny trace or spark of a specified quality or feeling. August days hold a scintilla of nostalgia for me.
Ezra710.com is a source of Bible studies you might enjoy. I recently studied James during my devotions. The author takes you verse by verse through the book of your choice. She doesn’t try to tell you what it mean but uses questions for you to search your own heart and find the meaning. I really enjoy doing a more formal Bible study a couple times a year and maybe you will too. And the clincher– it’s free!

I haven’t decided how I’m sending summer off. Ceremoniously eat one more slice of watermelon? It would be nice to spend some quiet time by the water or amongst the trees. I will take time to record happy memories. (I do know how I’m going to celebrate the first day it snows, though.)
