The January Collection: Winter Whimsy

WELCOME to our monthly collection where we post interesting and fun information. This is from both Liz and Eva and it’s an assortment of things we have come across in the last month that caught our attention or tickled our funny bone.

How to Paint a Fridge (Inspired by a $2999 Retro SMEG) This caught my eye. Tell me how pretty the end result is. This project looks totally doable!

Make a mini bookshelf and fill it with all the books you have read. Honestly, this is too cute for words. I would love to have my books lined up in a mini bookshelf like this!

Purple Ladybug Rainboww Scratch Art Notes - These scratchy scratch notes look like they would be super-satisfying. Who wouldn’t love to scratch on paper and see pretty colors pop up. I know at least two school girls that would love to get this, and I bet you do to!

Are you a tea drinker? Winter time is the perfect time to relax with a hot beverage and I don’t always want coffee. Tea is soothing and delicious, with the added benefit of being medicinal. Check out the collection of tea at Star West Botanicals. They have something for everyone. I especially like the Sencha green tea and the Winter’s Remedy. Winter’s Remedy works wonders on a sort throat!

BEEF BARLEY SOUP is incredibly easy and so delicious! It’s loaded with veggies, tender beef and plump barley. It’s a complete meal in a bowl! Try it out before spring comes. (I add mushrooms {because that makes it gourmet}, and leave out the beef gravy mix {because I never have it on hand}.) It’s delcious and filling. Here’s a hint for the mushrooms: place them in the sun for a few hours before adding them to the soup. They soak up vitamin D just like you do in the sun!

AN example of jamais vu is the all-familiar repeating of a word too long and it starts to sound odd to your ears and you wonder if you are even saying it right. Or, you are writing something and you know you spelled the word right, but it looks so weird that eventually you have to go look it up. Have you experienced this ever?

IF IT WERE JANUARY ALL THE YEAR
I wonder if I'd like it here,
Finding every place I go-
Snow, snow, always snow.
    -Annette Wynne

(I wouldn't like it, just for the record.)

We hope you are having a a great start to 2024 and we are so glad you are here!

Tell us what is catching your eye this January. And would you ever consider painting your fridge? (I can just imagine what my husband would say if I broached that idea. The result was stunning, though)

  1. Jamais villa, I like that!! Makes me think about sitting and pondering the spelling of the word ‘of’🤔

  2. Thank you for answering the question lurking in the back of my mind… the ugly refrigerator in the guest house CAN be painted!
